SUMMARY:Gender Equity Advocates: Community Cohort (17)
DESCRIPTION:5 Fridays starting May 2nd\n11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT\nOnline \nWe invite you to become a Gender Equity Advocate\, working together toward equal\, unbiased hiring & employment processes\, language & behaviors in Jewish workplaces\, building organizational capacity for gender equity. \nLearn how to spot\, notice and challenge gender bias and to identify the diverse talent and leadership that will lead our Jewish community forward\, in a collegial learning cohort of peers. Our Gender Equity Advocates are individual professionals fundamental to the success of their Jewish organizations and communities\, embedded in their Jewish community\, as this work is done within their current roles. Gender Equity Advocates ideally represent a diverse and inclusive assembly of Jewish communal professionals and volunteer lay leaders\, and are prepared to serve as voices for all kinds of change toward gender-equitable and less biased processes\, language and behaviors across our Jewish organizations. Each of our cohort members\, by virtue of their advocacy\, role\, interest and passion is thus positioned to build individual\, organizational and communal capacity. All those who are curious\, passionate and eager to learn\, within their current professional roles\, are invited to join us as we dive deeply into the work of making our Jewish community a more gender-equitable space. This is open to all professionals\, and does not require participants to hold a supervisory\, HR or DEI portfolio to participate. \nOur Advocates: Each of our cohort members\, by virtue of their advocacy\, role\, interest and passion is thus positioned to build individual\, organizational and communal capacity. All those who are curious\, passionate and eager to learn\, within their current volunteer roles\, are invited to join us as we dive deeply into the work of making our Jewish community a more equitable space. Learn how to spot\, notice and challenge gender bias and to identify the diverse talent and leadership that will lead our Jewish community forward\, in a collegial learning cohort of peers \nOur Learning: As a Gender Equity Advocate\, you’ll join the communal effort to address gender bias in the Jewish workplace\, with a specific focus on how employees are hired\, retained\, employed and advanced by and in our Jewish organizations. We begin with our biases\, contemplating where our personal stories intersect with our work. We then step into these biases\, examining how they function in our lives and work\, how they influence our communication and decision-making\, and where these biases emerge in intersection with hiring and employment. We then consider the multi-phased work of the hiring committee and our professional partners\, and the various steps of the hiring process\, as we imagine how to constitute these committees and professional roles to effectively combat bias and strive for equity. As we reimagine this process\, we consider our first strategies toward understanding our relationships\, the challenge of power\, and the questions that drive our work and our values as we plan for a future that is less biased and more just and equitable for women and people of all genders. \nAs we engage in close textual reading as a tool to consider how language influences behavior\, we continue to consider our biases\, as we notice and observe social and cultural norms and shift our behavior. We use job descriptions to evaluate language and evaluate ourselves\, as our primary text to lift up opportunities to create gender-equitable internal and external organizational processes. \nWe design for action\, as we uncover helpful\, practical strategies for identifying challenges in hiring and employment processes\, with templates for advocacy located in thoughtful\, organizational strategy and a desire to create supportive\, equitable workplace cultures. Our work is deeply relational\, and we focus on considering and mapping the roles we play in our organizations\, and those with whom we are in relationship. In order to more deeply understand power and connection\, and clarify our images of leadership\, we tap into our own power to advocate and make change. \nWe believe that hiring and employment processes that are more gender-equitable enable women rise to positions of leadership\, and will also enable our Jewish organizations to hire the best candidates at the same time–and that a rising tide will lift all ships\, supporting all those who work in the Jewish not-for-profit sector to be enriched and satisfied by their work\, regardless of gender. We believe that designing for equity in hiring and employment processes requires us to be intersectional in our thinking and our practice\, and we invite you to join us in this space. Our work is to tap into the greatest potential our community has to offer\, and to enable us to release our biases and preconceived notions that hold us back from recognizing the powerful human resources in our midst. If you are ready to begin advocating for yourself and your colleagues\, and this is a change that you feel committed to amplifying\, we invite you to join us. \nOur Community Cohort will meet on Fridays beginning in May. \nSessions are 2.5 hours long and meet via Zoom. \nFriday\, May 2 11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT \nFriday\, May 9 11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT \nFriday\, May 16 11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT \nFriday\, May 30 11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT \nFriday\, June 6 11:00am-1:30pm ET/8:00-10:30am PT \nPLEASE NOTE THAT AS OF MONDAY\, APRIL 28\, ALL REGISTRANTS ARE SUPPORTED BY A GENEROUS GIFT FROM A FUNDER. SUMMARY:Gender Equity Advocates: SUPERAdvocates Cohort
DESCRIPTION:Anyone who has learned with GEiHP as a part of our Gender Equity Advocates Workshops is eligible to join our SUPERAdvocates Cohort: we invite you to join us. We also will consider those professionals and volunteer leaders who are deeply engaged with amplifying safety\, respect and equity in the Jewish communal workplace. \nAs a Gender Equity Advocates\, you already are fundamental to the success of your organization\, and engaged with GEiHP’s work in the field. Your advocacy is embedded in your Jewish community and in your workplace\, in your current role. You may also serve as a board member\, volunteer leader or committee member in your Jewish community\, where you advocate for gender equity as well. As a SUPERAdvocate\, you may be a specialist or a generalist on equity\, talent\, culture or career issues\, you will join us in your commitment to advocacy\, support and confidentiality. \nIf you have participated in GEiHP’s cohort learning and GEA Network\, you are ideally positioned to take part. You already embody these values and skills: you are curious\, passionate and eager to learn\, in your current professional and/or volunteer role. If this is you\, please join us to take a deeper dive into the work of making our Jewish community a more gender-equitable space\, and prepare our community to support gender equity in 2025 and beyond. \nApproximately 20% of our network are male-identified. We are only too aware that men can amplify the voices of women and non-binary people\, those without their privilege. This enables men to do rich inner work to acknowledge their role in patriarchal systems\, and outer work to engage in advocacy and changemaking. In order to embed equitable practice in our organizations–in our Jewish communal workplaces\, we invite our male-identified colleagues to speak up and speak out about or addressing gender bias and gender gaps. \nWe seek approximately 15-20 individuals\, drawn from our Gender Equity Advocates Network\, to join us. We seek not just a total number of participants\, but the right people\, those who are eager and willing to serve as ombudspeople and continue their advocacy as part of their professional practice\, out of deep commitment to the work. If you want to serve\, we want you. \nPlease hold the following dates and times for our SUPERAdvocates Cohort. \n\nEach session is 2 hours in length.\nWednesdays\, 4:00-6:00pm ET/1:00-3:00pm PT\nMay 21\, 28 June 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\n\nOur SUPERAdvocates will commit to serve as long term supports\, resources and ombudspeople in an informal capacity. They will be listed as advisors and advocates on the GEiHP webpage\, and receive referrals via our internal referral system. Additionally\, our work will be adequately flexible so that SUPERAdvocates will be able to structure their participation based on their availability\, ranging in time from 2-3 hours monthly (our estimate). We are building in an evaluation process that will allow us to take stock after year one\, so that we can determine how best to use our SUPERAdvocates into a year 2 and beyond\, and will invite you into this process. \nA large part of GEiHP’s into the future will be one on one support of Jewish communal professionals who need a helpful ear\, a resource\, a recommendation or some advice. These may take the form of hour-long advising sessions\, coaching and consultations for folks in their first jobs\, negotiating salary or contracts\, working with boards or supervisors who are not aligned\, or navigating challenging workplace policies. We also will be able to offer many opportunities for public engagement\, writing\, referrals from organizations and other chances to lift our Jewish professional community into continued dialogue with issues of safety\, respect and equity in the workplace. Note that these are not ongoing consultative relationships or mentoring\, or formal coaching engagements\, but an initiative that will offer one-time or short term support and advocacy resources without a long-term or time-intensive commitment. Our SUPERAdvocates will bring their highly experienced professional identities and their training as Gender Equity Advocates to these challenges\, as we work together to continue to support equitable workplaces\, policies and the capacity of all people to rise into positions of leadership. \nSUPERAdvocates get something out of this\, too. In addition to a supportive\, small network of colleagues\, they will receive a $360 stipend for their participation\, access to a suite of materials and resources to support their practice\, as well as access to internal coaching and support from Sara Shapiro-Plevan and other communal resources\, an opportunity to participate in focused professional learning and regular communications to support their practice. \nHow do I apply?\nClick here to complete our SUPERAdvocates Interest Form and Application.
