SUPERAdvocates bring their expertise and experience to the Jewish community as advisors and coaches, supporting equitable workplaces, policies and the capacity of all people to rise into positions of leadership.
What is a Gender Equity SUPERAdvocate?
Anyone who has learned with GEiHP as a part of our Gender Equity Advocates Workshops is eligible. As a Gender Equity Advocates, you already are a Jewish communal professional fundamental to the success of your organization, and engaged with GEiHP’s work in the field. Your advocacy is embedded in your Jewish community and in your workplace, in your current role. You may also serve as a board member, volunteer leader or committee member in your Jewish community, where you advocate for gender equity as well. As a SUPERAdvocate, you may be a specialist or a generalist on equity, talent, culture or career issues, you will join us in your commitment to advocacy, support and confidentiality.
Who should participate?
If you have participated in GEiHP’s cohort learning and GEA Network, you are ideally positioned to take part. You already embody these values and skills: you are curious, passionate and eager to learn, in your current professional and/or volunteer role. If this is you, please join us to take a deeper dive into the work of making our Jewish community a more gender-equitable space, and prepare our community to support gender equity in 2025 and beyond.
Can SUPERAdvocates be male-identified allies, too?
Approximately 20% of our network are male-identified. We are only too aware that men can amplify the voices of women and non-binary people, those without their privilege. This enables men to do rich inner work to acknowledge their role in patriarchal systems, and outer work to engage in advocacy and changemaking. In order to embed equitable practice in our organizations–in our Jewish communal workplaces, we invite our male-identified colleagues to speak up and speak out about or addressing gender bias and gender gaps.
How many SUPERAdvocates will be selected?
We seek approximately 15-20 individuals, drawn from our Gender Equity Advocates Network, to join us. We seek not just a total number of participants, but the right people, those who are eager and willing to serve as ombudspeople and continue their advocacy as part of their professional practice, out of deep commitment to the work. If you want to serve, we want you.
When does this cohort meet?
Please hold the following dates and times for our SUPERAdvocates Cohort.
Each session is 2 hours in length.
Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00pm ET/1:00-3:00pm PT
May 21, 28
June 4, 11, 18, 25
What long term commitment is required?
Our SUPERAdvocates will commit to serve as long term supports, resources and ombudspeople in an informal capacity. They will be listed as advisors and advocates on the GEiHP webpage, and receive referrals via our internal referral system. Additionally, our work will be adequately flexible so that SUPERAdvocates will be able to structure their participation based on their availability, ranging in time from 2-3 hours monthly (our estimate). We are building in an evaluation process that will allow us to take stock after year one, so that we can determine how best to use our SUPERAdvocates into a year 2 and beyond, and will invite you into this process.
What might SUPERAdvocates do in the field?
A large part of GEiHP’s into the future will be one on one support of Jewish communal professionals who need a helpful ear, a resource, a recommendation or some advice. These may take the form of hour-long advising sessions, coaching and consultations for folks in their first jobs, negotiating salary or contracts, working with boards or supervisors who are not aligned, or navigating challenging workplace policies. We also will be able to offer many opportunities for public engagement, writing, referrals from organizations and other chances to lift our Jewish professional community into continued dialogue with issues of safety, respect and equity in the workplace. Note that these are not ongoing consultative relationships or mentoring, or formal coaching engagements, but an initiative that will offer one-time or short term support and advocacy resources without a long-term or time-intensive commitment. Our SUPERAdvocates will bring their highly experienced professional identities and their training as Gender Equity Advocates to these challenges, as we work together to continue to support equitable workplaces, policies and the capacity of all people to rise into positions of leadership.
What’s in it for me?
SUPERAdvocates will receive a $360 stipend for their participation. They will also receive access to a suite of materials and resources to support their practice, as well as access to internal coaching and support from Sara Shapiro-Plevan and other communal resources, an opportunity to participate in focused professional learning and regular communications to support their practice.
